Who wants to be a CnP blogger?

Who cares about being a millionaire? The ultimate question is, who wants to be a CnP (copy-and-paste) blogger, and get rich doing it?

Why be a CnP blogger?

You may ask. Let me tell you why and oh, stop going to that millionaire-wannabe gameshow already. Get online today and start CnP blogging now! It’s frustrating when you buy hundreds of lottery ticket but none of them are winning, and you’ll start swearing those four-letter-words when you found out that the uncle next door won the whole lot. Damn!

In CnP, it’s different. Everybody wins, Everyday! I’m telling you, being a CnP blogger will earn you money for a living! First, CnP is so easy your 10-year-old cousin could do it. I’m not kidding, ask them to surf through the net for funny jokes, funny movie clips, interesting games, gadgets and toys. Hey, they like those stuff don’t they? All you have to do is teach them how to make screenshots of those sites and write a few simple lines about them and click Publish. Done. It’s that simple!

Okay, then what?

Then, just sit back and enjoy as the visitors flock in and you start cashing in on money from multiple advertisement programs, e.g. Adsense, AdBrite, BlogAds, Clicksor, you name it.

Alright, let’s draw the line here. I’m not condoning CnP nor promoting the use of it. CnP blogging sucks okay. It earns you money no doubt about that, but having other people’s content on your blog/site and claiming it your own is as cheap as wearing other people’s underwear, with the whole world except you realizing who’s the real “superman”. End of story.

Make the Switch to Mozilla Firefox

If you ask me, what are the chances that I will browse in an Internet Explorer ever again. My answer is, rare, almost none. Unless of course, for that occasional Windows Updates (The Windows Update website won’t work on other browsers other than IE) for security patches, and patches, and more patches. Or, clicking that mail button in MSN Messenger which triggers the IE browser, or, checking if my CSS designs work in IE.

Since I’ve made that switch to Firefox a year ago, I’ve never looked back since. In fact, my Windows Desktop Cleaner Wizard even suggested me to remove rarely or unused shortcuts, such as this one.
Desktop Cleanup Wizard asks me to delete Microsoft Internet Explorer
A never been used Microsoft Internet Explorer shortcut. That’s just too bad. Gotta get rid of it now.

The reasons for the switch are straight and simple. What IE users would be suffering then, pop-ups, spywares, viruses, security issues, “the” switch had helped millions worldwide to end their nightmares. Firefox does best to fend off malicious warez and improve security strengths.

Following streams of tremendous conversions and support, Firefox’s effective marketing campaigns would become the first real threat to Microsoft web browser’s stronghold monopoly since they shipped IE free with their Windows 98 operating system back in 1998. The software giant then took rigorious measures to patch and improve their browser’s security, but in the process, revealing the ugly sides of their browsers, it seems.

Tons of great feedbacks can’t be wrong. Enough to prove that Firefox is worth every single byte on your hard disk. The thing is, everyone loves Firefox and its creative marketing campaigns. Users had the chance be involved in the effort to market the products they loved, and who better to speak and spread the satisfaction than the users themselves? Word of mouth is ultimately the best marketing tool.

Get Firefox 1.5 and Wishing you Happy Holidays
Wait no more alright, make the switch to Firefox now! Don’t forget to check out their extensions page for more nifty functions. For those of you who fancy colorful themes, check out their themes page and get ready to change the skin of your fox as you wish.

If anyone has ideas on how to change the default browser in MSN Messenger, do let me know. I would appreciate that! In the mean time, Microsoft marketing geeks, come and convince me and see if you could get me to restore that Microsoft IE shortcut back on to the desktop again.

Geelong and Eastern Beach

Panoramic photo of Geelong's Eastern Beach
Went to Geelong today and snapped some photos. I didn’t expect the beach there to be so spectacular – the clear blue greenish water and its surroundings are breath-taking. Up the beach-side slope is the Eastern Park, and it’s quite a remarkable park as well, with a shooting range, botanical garden, sports and recreational facilities, a zoo, all covered in one park.

Geelong is the second largest city in the state of Victoria, Australia. A port city of approximately 190,000 people (est. Nov 2005) located on Corio Bay, Geelong is located 75 kilometres south-west of the states capital, Melbourne. Geelong is covered by the municipality of The City of Greater Geelong, and is Victoria’s largest regional city. Along the coastline to the west is the Great Ocean Road…

The Internet Battle: SMK Sacred Heart vs SMK Methodist

While I was googling the web for pages relating to Sibu – my hometown, I stumble upon links that appeared so familiar to me – It was the SMK Sacred Heart Sibu website. How long has it been? centuries? I’m not sure when was my last visit to one of my teenage online productions, but it’s been hell of a history and my memory was flashed-back to those good old days…

During the closure of year 1996, my dad bought me a PC as an incentive for a good performance in UPSR. I was given a PC with specs of Pentium 100Mhz CPU, 1.2GB HDD, 32MB RAM, and the technician said then,

“Man, this PC is whopping fast, it has a 32mb RAM!!”

Yeah, that was the technology then. That piece of RAM is obsolete and now laid to rest in my own prehistoric museum of technology. On top of those specs, I’ve a 14″ monitor, a Creative SoundBlaster soundcard plus speakers! Logitech mouse and keyboard, all for RM4,000! Damn, RM4,000 for those junks?! I added another 2.1Gb Seagate harddrive later for RM700. You guys tell me, how good a PC can you get for RM4,700, today, right now? I’m gonna stop comparing anymore before you guys give me lessons on inflation and economic, but man, RM4,700!!!

Alright, the point is, since then, I started getting online and dipped my hands into web designing. In 1998 (Form 2), I was approached by one of my school teachers through e-mail when he stumbled upon the school website developed by me and one of my friends. What we did then was too brief and he would like to setup a webteam to make it better. And the result…

First ever SHS Sibu website
The first-ever official SHS website was officiated in June, 1998 by YB Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew. The website runs Java Applets for the flashing “SMB Sacred Heart Sibu” caption on the left hand panel, which we thought was cool then. Javascript for mouseover image swap for the menu system, with its images created in Paint Shop Pro 4 – my primary graphic editor then. Basically, the main entrance page is quite attractive and promising. But when you click into it, please, you’re welcomed to make comments.

It’s so bad that when I see it today, I laughed at what I did last time! despite it being my pride back then. The techniques then were so lame, the size of a small monochrome picture of a school’s board member could take up to 35kb! Man, no wonder we were complaining how slow TMnet was back then.

Then, a couple of years later, Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS) organized a state-level secondary schools web design competition, and without hesitation, we enrolled. A new webteam was developed cause the seniors had graduated and moved on. The new talents were cool – a programmer and a graphic geek. Just the boost we needed for the competition. Our main competitor were the guys from SMB Methodist. Both of the schools were competiting with each other in every aspects, from academic, to sports achievement, to resources and facilities, etc.

Well, that’s when the battle of the Internet began between both schools. In the end, we won the competition. Too bad the site hosted on SAINS was removed a couple of years ago. I didn’t have a screenshot nor backup of the site to show you guys. But I still found a news at the site to prove my words.

*Update: Found the website with news of us winning the state-level secondary school web design competition.

SMB Sacred Heart, Sibu emerged as the champion while SMB St. Joseph, Miri and SMK Teknik Sejingkat, Kuching won the 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively. Another ten Consolation Prizes were given away to secondary schools from various parts of Sarawak.

The Champion was awarded a Multimedia and Internet-Ready PC, a laser printer, a Colour Scanner, a set of Lotus SmartSuite software, a Training Module of 3 days for 10 persons. The second and the third prize winners were also awarded PCs, printers, softwares and training modules. All these prizes were sponsored by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd.

Below is a few left-over pages of our winning website that are still in the SAINS webserver, which I’ve managed to dug out.

After the competition, I developed another website for my school in collaboration with some of my schoolmates. It was hosted on Geocities.

SHS Website on Geocities
Made this while I was in Form 4. Much better version with appealing layout and stylings than the early days.

SMK Methodist Website
At the same time, SMK Methodist developed a new website for themselves, too. Very good-looking image-based site.

Well, I think the Internet battle between SHS and SMK Methodist has now ended as the latter went on and took charge of the lead. Since I left SHS, I haven’t heard news of any major updates to the school’s website. SHS should really do some catch up on their Internet presence, seriously, before they go tech-obsolete.

RM1 Coin Ceased of Legal Tender

RM1 Coin
Effective from December 7th, 2005, the RM (Ringgit Malaysia) 1 coin will be ceased of legal tender. This means that if you drop a RM1 coin down the slit of the soft drink dispenser, it’ll come out straight in the coin retrieval slot. So, don’t get too upset and start kickin’ on the machine, for there’s nothing wrong with the dispenser nor the coin. The coin is dead now and contains no currency value.

Perhaps some of you might want to keep some of the coins as a collection, but for those who missed the chance to exchange the coins within the last 3 months, you could still be able to do that at no charge at all branches of commercial banks, the main branches of Bank Simpanan Nasional and Bank Negara Malaysia’s branches at Kuala Lumpur, Pulau Pinang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

Reason for discontinuing the coin is reported to be standardization issues, with two different version of the coins being minted by Royal Mint of Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

Evening at St. Kilda Beach

Sunset over the Marina
Summer’s here and the sun sets at around 8:30pm. Everyone’s out during this time of the year to do whatever they can’t do during the colder seasons. Hot chicks are showing more of their body, skating around the beach side road.
