Typhoon tailing over Miri City

16

May

It was Tuesday night and I was dining outside at Pujut 7. Just as I sat down and ordered food, the wind started to blew. Then rain follows. It splashed on the table and I had to move inside. After shifting, the wind blew the empty plates off the table and everyone in the restaurant were alarmed by this. The wind got stronger and it started to move things around. Chairs and tables, and then the shades. Workers rushed to close the roller shutter and shares were rolled up.

And these were the aftermath of the gust of wind.

Chaos on the road
Chaos on the road.

Fallen Debris on the road
Fallen debris on the Permyjaya roundabout. There was like about 8-10 trees fallen along the Pujut-Lutong highway. Traffic was totally halted then.

Traffic Halted
Fallen tree on the Tudan-Emart road. Traffic was totally halted for almost 30 seconds minutes because there was another tree blocking the other side of the road in front. And some stupid driver was stubborn and didn’t want to give way. So both side were stuck for half an hour or so until someone came down the car and negotiate a way out.

Typhoon was tailing over Miri. And that was just the tail of the typhoon, with its eyes concentrating in the Philippines’ northern islands. I wonder how it would be if the eyes were in Miri?

Miri International Jazz Festival 2008

12

May

I was lucky to be able to attend this year’s Miri International Jazz Festival, thanks to the free and limited, Access All Areas (excluding the media and backstage area) ticket provided by Panda.

We were there just on time to get a front row position. Just good enough for photo taking. Cut the crap and let’s jump straight to the photos.

Amar Sundy from Algeria kicked us off with his Chicago blues music.

This is Amar Sundy.

Next up, it’s Rumba Calzada from Canada.

Raphael Geronimo from the Philippines. Leader of the Rumba Calzada band.

Miguel Valdes, the tuba and trumpet player. Freshmen in the band, but very, very talented.

The lady in the middle, who got a bit drunk during the night, kept on requesting for phone sex, I mean, sex-phone. Erm, Saxophone to be exact. “I want the sex-phone!”. She even nudged me and asked why ain’t I dancing. “Move your body!!” She then got into trouble when she nudged a wrong person - an unfriendly Chinese auntie, who swore at her.

And then her wish came through when T’Inventielke from Holland went on stage and performed towards the end of the show. She went totally quiet and obedient.

The uncle in the white shirt danced like there’s no tomorrow. Totally in a world of his own. Best of all, he dance from the start till the end, non-stop. I wonder if he’s on ecstasy.

Just testing out the zoom lens. Focusing on his green wrist tag. I didn’t have that to start with :P

And Arthur from Damn Dirty Angels was there too. He was right in front the stage so I guess his pictures woulda been better than mine. We know you’ve got the guitar pick from Amar Sundy. Time to show them off, Arthur.

The night was like it’s never gonna end. With encore after encore, final song after final song. It took like 5 plays until it finally ended at 2am. It’s really getting electric towards the end of the festival and it’s a good way to end it at a climax.

Minor Accident at Tudan-Kuala Baram

09

May

This is the view from the 2nd floor. Opposite of my building is a village called Kampung Sealine. It’s just a few minutes walk from the sea side, and hence the name.

I didn’t notice the accident actually until a police car came and stop by the road-side.
Motorbike Accident
From far away, there’s a motorbike down. Police car arriving at the scene.

Closer view
Policeman are questioning the man in yellow. Suppose he’s the driver who knocked the motorist down.

Sekian, terima kasih.

Free Name Card

07

May

I just got my free name card a week ago. The paper quality and its printing is really fine. Couldn’t ask for a better name card for its free of charge!

One unexpected fuss during the delivery of this shipment from the USA is that, the local mail centre had classified it as an electronic device and it required custom clearance. I had to personally go there and declare it otherwise. Damn. I thought it was the Fish Eye No.2 White Knight that I’ve bought on eBay a week ago. Turns out, it’s just a pile of free name card. Not that I’m complaining, but I was really expecting the White Knight. Really potong stim.

Anyway, here are the name cards.
