Miri Police Loves Starbucks

A couple of days ago, a police car stopped by in front of the shop, stopping a white Myvi parked right outside of the premise. It was heavily tinted, and the number plates were made of chrome numberings. Obviously, the car has no way whatsoever to escape a fine…

Not unless you offer the officer(s) a cup of Starbucks Coffee, err, Setarbak Kopi in this case. He’ll close his summon books and act as if he had been flashed by the Neuralyzer from the movie MIB.
Setarbak Kopi, best in Miri and Sibu, some say in KK oso best!

Oh, just in case you don’t know, this is the Neuralyzer. Erases memory in a flash. Sadly, it’s only available in the Sci-Fi movie Men In Black.

*FYI: The white Honda EK was safe from all the coffee splashes going on outside the shop. There were like 3-4 cups of coffees being served before it started to rain and they all have to call it a day. For the officers, it was enough to buy a few packets of stenched subsidized rice from BERNAS and add a few km of mileage to their Wiras or Kancils at home.

Enjoy your Setarbak Kopi officers!

Gecko says Hello World

Hello World! It’s been a long time…

This little gecko came to say hello a couple of days ago in my shop. The eggs were found in the fluorescent light’s housing.

Parking Lines

Had been busy getting the farking line..ops, I mean, parking lines drawn. Please excuse me but I haven’t been sleeping well lately, maybe the RM2.70/litre petrol is giving me a nightmare? or was it something else?

Anyway, here’s a couple of pics taken yesterday.
Parking Lines
A close up of the parking lines. Out of focus is the can of paint I’ve used to draw the lines, and at the background is the Shell petrol station. Not a very straight line towards the end, maybe my GPS coordinating sytem wasn’t functioning well.

Dark Clouds over Me
Dark clouds all over the sky. Maybe that’s the reason why my GPS wasn’t functioning.

That was yesterday. The weather has been better today and my lines are straight now. Will continue the other half tomorrow. Should be 3 more days to completion.

It Doesn’t Rain, But it Pours

It was pouring yesterday afternoon in Miri. Flooded a few roundabouts and roads. Miri surely needs adequate contingency planning for any unexpected natural disasters.

Dark Sky
Dark clouds over the roof of my shop. It then rained in the afternoon.

Full Moon

Full Moon
Full moon over Miri. Are you looking at the same moon as me?

Be careful, werewolves are on the run.

Aftermath of Typhoon Tailing

This is what happened to the building after the Tuesday’s typhoon tailing. I was totally unprepared for this.

Broken Signboard
Broken signboard. The remaining Chinese character, meaning “Car”. That’s my industry.

Cost of the signboard: RM2000+.

And then there was the broken telephone line. It was broken because of a fallen scaffolding. Careless painter forgotten to tie it to the support beam.
Telekom Malaysia van
I called the 100 support line and they promised to assign a technician to look at the situation within 24 hours. And to my surprised, they were indeed here within 24 hours. Pretty effective.

TM technician
But since the line is broken INSIDE of the property perimeter, that is out of Telekom Malaysia’s responsibility and they had to assign their contractor to sort it out. But after some negotiation with the visiting technician, we reached a deal to have it sorted personally. I repositioned and mounted the fallen wires back onto the wall and he helped me to do the reconnection.

Total cost: RM20. RM10 for the technician to have a drink. RM10 for the holder and wall plugs.

Roof truss bent
The strength of the wind could be seen through these bent roof trusses. I hope there’s no wind stronger than that in the future.

Malformed steel truss
Malformed steel trusses.

Coolman_wrx, are those trusses still safe for use?
