Agreed. I hail from Singapore and I feel that we are, to a certain extent still suffering from the same problem in the education system: rigidity. However, racism in Malaysia indeed compounds the issue. Therefore, ideals that hamper the efforts of the minority races in Malaysia should go first. As for rigidity, it’s a long process- questions that challenge the brain could be introduced gradually. This may draw complaints from those who believe in nothing but hard work, but it could slowly but surely benefit the education system.

You are right….Our education need to be change…We need to adapt according to time…Our education system is based from the British which emphasis too much on Memorizing not on critical thinking….It’s all for 1 purpose…To prepare the labors to meet the demand of industrialism within that period…

By the way….Ignore those 2 messages…I am Malay too….But that doesn’t mean i am with them…Speak subjects which is necessary….Racial Abuse like that will bring Our Malaysia no where….Islam never teach anyone to do so….Clearly they are not…Back then…In Jerusalem, Islam and Non-Muslim lived peacefully….All we need mutual respect….They eat Pork…So what…As long as you…yourself… don’t drink alcoholic substances and eat Pork….That should be good..

Malay are “PENDATANG” too….
People who should have the right for Malaysia is Indigenous people such as Iban, Orang Asli etc…Belajar Sejarah pun boleh tahu…Parameswara Buka Melaka…Dia Dari Palembang….MacamMana Kau bising pun…Kau pun Manusia..Di Mata Tuhan…Sama semua…Yang beza kan individual adalah Hati mereka…

well said, but truly, i think yeah, malaysian education is kinda “crap”. the memorising part is really boring plus, is trapping the children to think that “if i didnt score i’m such a big loser” or “i literally don’t have a future if i didnt score those exam”. contrary to what ive said, i scored well, but yeah, regretted later that i dont have time to enjoy my childhood days. even parents are stuck up to these image that their children really needed to score well on exam. it’s hard on the children, plus, even if the top scorer would likely to have great future, i dont think that they’ll be serving our country first. most of the great students are really looking forward in working overseas. so much on education for serving our country. plus, most Malaysian have a really simple minds, which i find it kinda annoying and maybe irritating. you really cant shout out what you really feel on public without being discriminate. either way, i think that malaysian education need a step forward or maybe a step more approaching towards identity building. “everyone is special” is what i believe, and i always hated when someone said they’re big dumbhead. there must be a way that they will shine their best. (i think i said too much..=.=” better stop here)lol
so, even though its my country, its still much frustrating that it remain like this..

I believe there are a lot of ideas on how to improve the situation, but not unless you get the top ministers to approve it, you’ll be forever stuck in their merry-go-round headless-cockroach plans. Take the English vs Malay for Maths/Science subjects issues as an example, one moment it’s about conforming to International standards, moments later it’s about patriotism and all the students will need to switch back and forth between Languages. Very typical double standards in that particular department there.

I agree with the person who mentioned doing something about this rather than just complaining.

It’s really easy to complain. Why do we invest so much emotion and energy on things we would not care to change or improve?

It’s not easy to cope with unpleasant things i.e; Malaysian Education system. You can run away from it (migrate or attend public school) because you hate it. Ask yourself, is it fair to rant about how u hate it and how bad it is when you would not lift a finger to do something about it?

We want the best things for ourself but it we don’t get them it does not mean we should deprive others of them.

I also felt that many who have commented can contribute a lot to the cause of improving the Malaysian education system considering their ability to think critically.

So, band together and come up with a workable plan.

I think I’d be happy if someone could put forth at least one suggestion that we can try.

This is your opportunity to do something to help. I’m sure many teachers like me are reading this post and following this thread.

I don’t need your money. I don’t need your energy. I just need your ideas. I just want to know what you think will be a good way to improve our education system.

i can relate to this article so much.the routine during the secondary years is spot on.student in malaysia only know how to talk crap.and the education system is farked up.i agree with u very much that they need to promote critical thinking.i have known many people who get good grades but are stupid,annoying assholes.im not jealous i got 6A for my PMR.pendidikan moral is crap too.memorize nila-nilai??wtf is that 4 zzzzz.how can textbook teach u moral zzzzz.i also hate people that act like they know football but they dont.one thing i want to say is….FUCK MALAYSIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM!!!!!!
