Most of the kampua stalls you saw back then were removed or demolished as the Town Council came out with new regulations to get rid of those illegal premises.

Illegal as it may be, that was the icon/signature of Sibu.

Anyway, Sibu has certainly grew, but not to the expectations of most Siburians. Ask any Siburians and see if they're happy of the current situation in their hometown. Youths and talents are flowing out of town to bigger cities/countries, chances are far and few in between. It's a dire scene here in Sibu.

I think it should be more than 30 years old. Can someone confirm this?

The kompia is nostalgic, but the old lady owner isn't.

Hello,
I think the shop should be more than 25 years old. I still remember the shop already there when i studied at the kindergarten just opposite it. Which is close. I'm over 30 now.

Regards

Kampua - my favourite.

My dad is from Sibu, but I am from Australia.
When I was 14 years old (1983) I spent one year in Sibu - on Rambutan Lane, Tiong Hua Road.

Everynight I took my cousins for Kampua mee for supper, from the open air kampua stall on Rambuttan Lane. It was run by a guy with the christian name Peter. Sometimes I had piensit (not sure how to spell that) for a change.

I don't remember the Kompia house on Tiong Hua Road though. But maybe I just missed it.

Last time I went to Sibu, Chinese New Year 2009, I hardly recognised Tiong Hua road. Not many people there and quite run down, very sad.
And Peter's kampua stall was gone.
But then again Sibu had changed tremendously over those 24 years - changed for the better mainly.

Still every day I was in Sibu in 2009 I had kampua (some times twice per day!) and kompia.

When anyone in my family comes from Sibu, they always bring kompia (they freeze it before they leave).

Kampua and kompia, both Sibu Foochow signature dishes.

Such good memories.
I want to go back again.
