Victoria Market of Melbourne

Queen Victoria Market
This is the Queen Victoria Market. Situated in Victoria Street, between Queen and Peel Street, it is a huge market which houses more than 1,000 stalls selling all kinds of products, ranging from vegetables and fruits, meat and fish, bakery and delicatessan, clothes and fashion wears, souvenirs and toys, as well as general merchandise.

Victoria Market's Opening Hours
The market is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 6am until 2pm, on Friday from 6am until 6pm, on Saturdays from 6am until 3pm. The food stalls doesn’t open on Sundays and the general merchandise and bric a brac stalls will take their stalls on that particular day.

Crowds. It's always busy.
The Queen Victoria market, or more widely known as the Victoria Market, is one of the tourist hotspots in Melbourne. Crowds are always expected here.

Veges. Lots of veges!
There are heaps of stalls selling veges here. All at a competitive low price, the “cheaper than the cheapest price near you” price.

Fruits! Fresh and healthy!
Fruits, fresh from the farmers. Very juicy and delicious, and healthy, too!

Florist. Flowers and even Cactus!
There are florist stalls in the market as well, some even sell cactus.

Clothes. Team jerseys. Pirated. Fashion wears.
I experience a sense of deja vu when I walk this isle. Nevermind the premise, but the clothes are very similar to what I’ve seen in Chadstone (both style and quality wise), but at a price tag much easier to bear as compared to the fashion city. Apparently, the clothes are all from the People’s Republic of China.

Funny t-shirts. Even special discounted shoes!
T-shirts of various kinds, hip hop, funky, humourous comics, etc. Even imitated sports shoes are on sales here at a never seen before prices.

Souvenirs for friends? Get them here!
Don’t forget to get these cuties with you when you’re going back to wherever you’re from. Make a choice there.

Photo frames and, crystal balls and cubes.
Some of the general merchandise they sell in Victoria Market.

Meat and Fish Market
The Meat and Fish market is separated from the main market and it is based indoor to avoid heat.

Seafood and Crabs Stall
Fish stalls and a close-ups of some of the crabs. I missed the Mongol-style cooked crabs in Malaysia. Might do that dish in the short future.

Salmons here are cheaper than the supermarket. Much cheaper.
One of my favorite fish, priced at 17.50/kg here. I usually get them around $27 elsewhere. That’s a whopping $10 savings right here!

There's even some entertainment for you before you leave the Victoria market.
Before you leave the market, stand back and enjoy some country music provided by the street performers. Their music’s so nice that I’ve to add half a star more to my ratings of this.

Final say: It’s an all-under-one-place market, you get almost anything you can think of. The prices here are very, very affordable. That’s a healthy fact for me. Despite it being a very old premise - the market’s carried-over from the Victorian times, but it is kept very clean. I give it a four-and-a-half for the effort they put in to maintain it till this day.
